FUN SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

fun gif
This is a selection of strange, unusual, bizarre, highly dangerous
science tricks and experiments.  We have to tell you NOT to try these,
because we don't want to get in trouble if you electricute yourself or
blow your lab up or burn it down, or any other consequence you might
have.  Anyway, enjoy this information, and feel free to e- mail us your
own bizarre science experiments, and we will post them right here!!!!!
Do NOT try these without help from your Mommy, Daddy, or Thesis Advisor!

The Phallic Pipette Bulb
Take one of the little rubber pipette bulbs used on Pasteur pipettes (some people
call them "binkies"), and submerge it in chloroform (CHCl3).  To maximally offend
your collegues, drop it right into the bottle of chloroform.  The pipette bulb will
expand to several times its normal size, and look like a big "thing" or at least like
a big condom.  If you can get it out of the bottle, after all the chloroform evaporates
from the rubber, it will return to its original size (and be very nice and clean, too) !!!

The Pickle-light-bulb
Take a nice Kosher dill pickle, stick a nail or needle into it from from each of the long
ends (with nail/needle tips not even close to touching each other).
Somehow figure out how to (safely, if that is even possible) attach 120 volts AC
to the two nails/needles.  If the lights are low, you will see a nice greenish glow coming
from inside the pickle.  The accompanying smoke and strench are not as bad as you
might imagine (at least not at first).  Have some spare fuses standing by, or know where
your circuit breakers are!

Exploding Eppendorf tube "Firecrackers"
Take some little chips of dry ice and put them in an Eppendorf-style test tube.  Snap the
cap shut, and head for cover.  Pressure will begin to build up.  Typically, the cold shrinks
the tube, relative to the cap, so the cap does not pop.  Eventually (from seconds to minutes),
the pressure builds up until the tube litterally explodes, sending shards of plastic shrapnel flying!!!

Alternative Energy Source for BUNsen Burner?
Someone sent in a multi-media presentation of this "experiment".
Download and view this 648k MPEG movie at your own risk. Make sure no one "important" is watching!
